Your account, privacy and data
Home location, notifications, what we keep and for how long, and how to download or delete your data.
4 minute read
The Account page holds your settings and your data: your cars, your home location, notifications, your plan, and the tools to download or delete everything we hold about you.
Home location
Enter a postcode and Charge Now opens there instead of wherever your phone happens to be, which is handy if you mostly charge near home. It is optional, you can remove it at any time, and removing it withdraws your consent for us to store it.
Notifications
Turn on push notifications to hear about your favourite chargers when trevl is closed. See favourite chargers and alerts.
Your location during a journey
trevl uses your location while a journey is running, to navigate and to measure how far you have come. It keeps only your latest position, overwriting it with each update, and clears it when the journey ends. We do not keep a trail of where you have driven.
A journey plan holds where you are going only for as long as you might drive it. When the journey ends, or 48 hours after you planned it if you never start it, we delete its start, destination and route, and keep only the distances, charge levels and charging stops. Plan the trip again to drive it after that.
Your browser asks before sharing your location with trevl at all, and you can revoke that in its settings.
Shared plans
Nothing you plan is public unless you choose Share plan. A shared plan is a copy with your start and destination reduced to the town they are in or near, so a link to a trip from home says only which area you set off from. Shared plans lists every plan you have shared, and Stop sharing deletes the copy and takes its page down at once.
What we keep, and for how long
| Data | Kept |
|---|---|
| Your account, cars, preferences and favourites | Until you delete them or your account |
| Summaries of completed journeys (for Journey History) | Until you delete your account |
| The tracking record of a finished journey | 90 days |
| Where a journey plan goes (start, destination, route) | Until the journey ends, or 48 hours if you never start it |
| The rest of a journey plan | 12 months |
| A plan you shared (the town-level copy) | Until you stop sharing it or delete your account |
| Monthly usage counts | 24 months |
The full detail, including who we share data with to run the service, is in the privacy policy.
Signing in on more than one device
You can stay signed in on your phone, laptop and tablet at once; signing in on one does not sign you out of another. Sign Out signs out only the device you are using.
Downloading your data
Under Privacy & Data, Download my data gives you your data as a single JSON file: your profile, cars, journey preferences, journey plans and journeys, completed-journey summaries, battery readings, favourite chargers, shared plans, charger reports, feedback messages, waiting-list place, subscription and monthly usage.
Deleting your account
Delete my account, also under Privacy & Data, removes your account and your data permanently. You will be asked for your password to confirm, or, if you sign in with Google, to sign in with Google again. It cannot be undone.
If you pay for a plan, deleting your account cancels it straight away and you will not be charged again. The rest of the period you have already paid for is not refunded. If we cannot reach our payment provider to cancel it, nothing is deleted and you will see a message saying so: try again a little later, or cancel through Manage Billing on the Subscription page and then delete your account.
Getting help
- Help & feedback, the button in the corner of every page when you are signed in, is the quickest way. Choose Problem, Suggestion, Question or Praise and write what happened. The page you were on and your device details come with it, and we reply by email.
- Forgotten your password? Choose Forgot your password? on the sign-in page and we will email you a link to set a new one. It works once, for an hour. Setting a new password signs you out on every device.
- Anything about your personal data: privacy@trevl.co.uk.
